Evidence-based Practice, Research and Nursing

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach to nursing that is based on research evidence and clinical expertise. It is the “conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of patients.”

It is a systematic process of identifying clinical information needs and selecting evidence that is most appropriate for patient care. Evidence-based nursing care delivery involves applying evidence from research studies to clinical practice to make nursing care decisions and providing nursing care with the goal of optimizing patient outcomes.
