Reasons Women Have Abortions in the United States

This article states some of the possible reasons that women have an abortion. It is based on a five-month research conducted on 38 facilities in the United States through self-administered questionnaires on 1,900 women of different ages, races, ethnicities and marital statuses. The questionnaires covered both the reasons why the women chose to have an abortion and for those who had an abortion after 16 weeks, why they chose to delay the abortion. On average, a majority of the respondent provided 3.7 reasons, while others had as many as five reasons for opting to have an abortion. The reasons ranged from feeling concerned that having a baby would drastically change their life, to not wanting to raise a child alone.
