Is it Necessary to Learn Two Languages?

In the United States, many people consider it enough to only speak English. There is an assumption that learning two or more languages is a complicated process that causes confusion and affects one's ability to learn one language fully. However, research shows that these attitudes and beliefs towards bilingualism are incorrect; there are numerous benefits to learning a language for people of all ages. Contrary to popular belief, bilingualism does not negatively impact babies; in fact, they learn both languages at the same rate a monolingual child learns one language. Additionally, it improves their brain functioning.
