Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting on February 14, 2018, resulted in the death of 17 people and injured 17. According to Berne (2019), the shooting disaster was triggered by 19-year-old Nikolas Jacob Cruz when he opened fire on students and staff, leading to a national outcry from parents. The disaster was not the first of this type of school-based shooting, but one of the most severe in terms of death, exceeding the April 1999 Columbine High School shooting that left 15 dead. Mass shooting falls under the category of manmade disasters, which are more difficult to forecast and manage.
