DNA Profiling and its Use in Criminal Investigations

Criminal investigation has become more advanced with the introduction of DNA profiling systems. With the increasing sophistication of criminals, it would be quite impossible to convict criminals in the absence of forensic science. Thus with the use of evidence that would have been invisible to the naked eye, it makes forensic science one of the vital tools in conducting criminal investigations.  The structure and composition of DNA is one of the factors that greatly contribute to the use of DNA in forensic criminal investigations. The following is an introduction of the DNA structure followed by an explanation of how the components have been used to come up with different DNA profiling systems that are utilized in criminal investigation.
