Paternity Leave: Benefits of universal application

Paternity leave is a controversial issue in the U.S. due to obstacles to its universal adoption. The benefit is granted to working expectant husbands, partners of pregnant women, surrogate fathers, or a person matched with a child for adoption to ensure that they have time to stay home and bond with the child and/or new child. Paternity leave was introduced in reaction to the need for married men to have time with their newborns, just as women are given maternity leave to deliver and take care of their young ones.
